About the workSince the establishment of the first art academies in Italy in the 16th century, the study of the human body has been part of the training and further education of artists. On the one hand, the representation of postures, gestures and facial expressions was practised. On the other hand, basic knowledge about the structure of the human body was taught. This work shows the muscle of a man's torso and thighs. It is probably a copy of an illustration from a medical textbook.
