About the workIs this the awakening from a dream or a nightmare? The crouched figure with bat wings at the feet of this young woman in bed presses an owl against itself and wears a wreath of poppy seed pods on its veiled head. It is the embodiment of night. Together with the goblins surrounding the bed, it must depart as the sun coming in from the upper left corner illuminates the room. Theodor Mintrop depicts the sun god Apollo striding through the open window with his entourage.
