not on displayAnyone who sits here is enveloped by petals. Inspired by the Chinese bellflower, Masanori Umeda developed the shape of this armchair. Combining technical construction with sensual form, the Japanese designer created a piece of furniture that moves between functional object and organic sculpture. His inspiration came from the atmosphere of his garden at night. The Japanese name "Getsuen" translates roughly as "Garden in the Moonlight". A member of the Italian design group Memphis, founded in 1981, Umeda used his designs to create a deliberate contrast to the sober, functional aesthetic of his time.
