About the workIn her video portrait, the artist Sophie Meuresch depicts a person from two different angles. Aware of the camera, the person, named Astrid, adjusts her body in anticipation of the image: she assumes controlled poses and holds them, while deliberately directing her gaze. Her movements are so minimal that the individual moments could just as easily be captured as photographs. Through this dual perspective, the person looks at the viewer while simultaneously looking away from them. This creates a simultaneous sense of closeness and distance.
