About the workThe Ethiopian artist Elias Sime assembles large-format reliefs from everyday objects and discarded electronic components. He sometimes spends years working on his collages, which therefore contrast with the fast pace of the technological age. Up close, the shapes and structures in ‘Tightrope’ are reminiscent of aerial photographs of cities. The title alludes to the balancing act required to reconcile the diverse interests of a community in an urban space.
