About the workConsidering that the man is being punched, the titular exclamation “Sweet Dreams, Baby!” sounds mocking. By using speech bubbles, the artist has adopted a stylistic device that is typical of comics. This print is part of the portfolio “11 Pop Artists III”, which was created for the exhibition “Pop and Op” that toured the USA from 1965 to 1967. The tobacco company Philip Morris sponsored the production of the portfolio. As a manufacturer of mass consumer goods, the company appreciated art that dealt with everyday life and appealed directly to the public.
