About the workThis typewritten note documents a hike taken by the writer Robert Walser: On 11 May 1942, he, together with his friend Carl Seelig, walked about eleven kilometres from Urnäsch to Appenzell. As part of a large-scale artistic research project, the Dutch artist Marcel van Eeden reconstructed the routes using literary sources and archival material. He then walked the routes himself and captured stops along the way in photographs such as this one. The focus was not solely on the historical event itself but also on the question of how it is preserved and passed down. Van Eeden connects the event with his own narrative and thus becomes part of the story.
