About the workDanish designer Verner Panton is known for the colourful furniture he developed in the 1960s. In 1992, he created this simple chair for the furniture store IKEA, which was assembled from four wooden squares of various hues. After just one year, the company decided to discontinue production due to low demand and to destroy most of the remaining pieces. The "Vilbert" is now one of the Group's design rarities. Although this first designer collaboration was not yet successful for IKEA, this changed in later years, for example in 2019 with the US designer Virgil Abloh.
