About the workLuxury meets protest: in a gesture of rebellion, Rebekka Benzenberg has defaced furs. The exclusive garments allude to issues of power and status on the one hand and to a femininity subjected to the dictates of beauty clichés on the other. At the same time, they point to concerns of animal rights. The punks in the GDR defended themselves against "too much future" in view of the predetermined life paths in socialist society. Taking up this slogan, the artist, who trained at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, engages in elementary questions of today’s society.
