About the workHarry Hachmeister's work explores moments of transformation, focusing on the mutability of one’s own body. Starting with the self-portrait, he negotiates identities and the possibility of their development. These photographs address body images and the social construction of gender with a humour that is typical of his pieces. Hachmeister was a master student of Timm Rautert at the Academy of Fine Arts in Leipzig. In addition to photography, he also works with painting and ceramics, often combining the various media in expansive installations.
