About the workOne satellite after another is lined up on the roof of the Algiers residential complex “Climat de France”, built in 1957 by French architect Fernand Pouillon. With this photograph, Kader Attia, born in France to Algerian parents, encourages the viewers to reflect on the connections between modern architecture, post-colonialism, media networking and cultural identity. The building is one of the last to be erected by the French colonial power – Algeria gained its independence in 1962. But to what extent do the antennas still symbolise Western monopolizing?
