About the workThe Norwegian artist Bjarne Melgaard developed his gestural painting style in the mid-1990s. In his works, he often draws on subcultural phenomena to address provocative and critical questions. His influences range from Nordic mythology to pop culture. Melgaard is interested in the dark side of humanity, such as self-destructive tendencies, deviant sexual practices or religious extremism. He pushes the boundaries to explore socio-political and ideological issues.
