About the workThe "Düsseldorfer Lieder-Album" (Düsseldorf Song Album) is based on six poems by various German writers. Commissioned by the publishing house Arnz & Co. in 1851, the writings were set to music by contemporary composers such as Robert Schumann and Julius Rietz, former conductor of the Düsseldorf City Theatre, and illustrated by well-known local artists. The first lines of text and opening bars of the songs are shown at the top of the pieces. If you turn the illustrated pages, you will find sheets with musical notation on which the complete lyrics are printed.
