About the workKakō Tsuji belonged to the “Shijo School”, a style of painting that emerged around 1900 and combined Western-influenced realism with traditional Japanese techniques. The artists were inspired by the beauty of nature, which can be seen in the motifs of flowers or birds. In addition to scroll and screen paintings, Kakō also produced templates for woodblock prints. As the owner of a private painting school and later director of the Academy of Arts in his native city of Kyoto, he was a well-known and influential teacher.
