About the workArmed with a bow and arrow, the rider approaches the still unsuspecting monster. This horned creature is a “div” – a figure from Islamic mythology that often appears as an adversary to the heroes. The magnificent horse is made up of a number of different animals and people. These composite figures appear repeatedly in Indian and Persian iconography. This drawing is probably from India but its original meaning and purpose are unclear.
