About the workIn Christianity, confirmation represents a declaration of a personal belief in God. The subtitle of this piece raises the question of which faith Anton Henning is confessing here – that in painting and its history? Through the works on the walls of the interior, the artist incorporates pictorial genres such as portraiture and landscapes. Abstract creatures appear in the centre of the room, intertwined as if in battle. The scene is reminiscent of depictions of great battles, which Henning transfers into the private space. A skull hovers above it all as a symbol of transience.
