About the workThis sculpture is part of a group of works that Elias Sime created during the Covid-19 pandemic. It is based on a semi-circular wooden construction reminiscent of a divided globe. The Ethiopian artist chose the shape to symbolise the fragmentation of the global community. He cut the hemisphere into six uniform elements and covered each with objects in its own way. In this work, he used clock faces, cases and the technical inner workings of digital and mechanical wristwatches. They symbolise the feeling of temporal standstill during the pandemic.
