About the workEmilie Preyer specialised in still lifes that were characterised by a delicate style of painting and the reproduction of various surfaces. She usually worked in small dimensions and created only slightly varying compositions of stone fruit, nuts and flies on marble slabs or tablecloths, occasionally accompanied by a drinking glass. Because of these similarities, it is difficult to date her pictures. Emilie Preyer was the daughter of a Düsseldorf artist who painted very similar motifs; she was able to build on his success.
