on display, room 018.4 About the workAt his father’s request, Otto Mueller began an apprenticeship as a lithographer at the age of 16. In his graphic art, he experimented with colour by reworking individual prints with watercolours or pastels. One of the few images that was polychromatic from the outset is “Fünf gelbe Akte am Wasser” (Five Yellow Nudes by the Water), which was printed using three stone plates. Mueller produced this work in 1921, when he was teaching at the Breslau Art Academy and could use the workshop there. The motif is based on a painting from 1914, which is now missing.
