on display, room 037The garden gnome – a symbol of bourgeois kitsch – serves as the inspiration for this versatile piece of furniture from French designer Philippe Starck: it can be used as a stool, side table or decorative object. With the "Gnome series", which alongside "Attila" also includes "Napoleon" and "Saint-Esprit", Starck humorously and unconventionally translates the familiar figure into the world of design. In doing so, he blurs the boundaries between art, everyday items and pop culture, elevating a banal object to a piece of object art with an ironic twist.
